Southland Conference ChampionshipsNovember 4, Natchitoches, Louisiana NATCHITOCHES, La. — Stephen F. Austin State University made a clean sweep of the 2002 Southland Conference Cross Country championship trophies in cold, rainy conditions here on Monday. Ana Rodriguez paced the field of 74 women runners to lead the Ladyjacks to their first team title since 1990 and fourth for the school all-time. She completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:18.70, nearly six seconds faster than second-place Kajsa Haglund of the University of Texas at Arlington. On the men’s side, Nathan Flores led four Lumberjacks who finished in the top 10, winning the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:41.70. The team win gives SFA back-to-back men’s titles, the first two Southland titles in the program’s history. Also crossing the line in the top 10 for SFA were Mike Thompson (26:17.40) in sixth place, Justin Meier (26:21.30) in seventh and Amlesom Teklai (26:33.30) in ninth place. The Ladyjacks won the 18th-annual women’s championship by three points over two-time defending champion UTA. SFA carded 71 points, UTA had 74 and the University of Texas at San Antonio finished third with 85. Sam Houston State placed fourth with 123 and McNeese State rounded out the top five with 131. Sam Houston State finished second on the men’s side with 68 points, 30 behind SFA, while UTA was third with 106, UTSA had 128 and McNeese 130. WOMEN (5000m) Team Scores
