COURSE CONDITIONS: mixed terrain--grass, dirt, gravel, limited
amount of pavement, and some wet spots due to previous day's
rain
WEATHER CONDITIONS: mild with a slight breeze--perfect running weather
--For the VARSITY divisions, we used a
modified version of Lockhart's Scott Hippensteel’s Equalized Scoring System.
--Why use a different scoring system in the
VARSITY races? Because of the
longer distance, smaller schools would be at a distinct disadvantage with the
traditional scoring method. Hopefully
the equalized scoring will encourage both large and small schools to enter and
compete on a more level playing field.
In addition, with the longer season this year, the modified distance
and scoring will keep it interesting for the kids.
